GRANT-LED INITIATIVES

IHA secures and manages federal, state and private foundation grants to advance healthcare across Upstate and rural New York. Our initiatives deliver education, technical assistance and program development to support healthcare facilities, emergency medical services (EMS) and educational institutions, including high schools and post-secondary healthcare programs.

As the leading voice for hospitals and health systems across Upstate and rural New York, IHA drives solutions that address healthcare workforce shortages and the distinct challenges facing rural communities.

Our work is grounded in collaboration—with hospitals, educational institutions, state and federal partners, and community organizations—to ensure that every New Yorker has access to high-quality, responsive care, no matter where they live.

For a generation, IHA has led regional and statewide workforce initiatives that strengthen the healthcare pipeline, support career mobility, and help providers recruit and retain a diverse, well-trained workforce. As a two-time Workforce Investment Organization (WIO) under New York’s CMS 1115 Health Equity Reform (NYHER) Waiver, IHA and its affiliate, Caring Gene® Healthcare Career Pathways, Inc., are expanding access to healthcare training, tuition assistance, coaching, and job placement across 13 high-need roles.

Leading on Workforce and Rural Health Priorities

Our commitment to workforce resiliency and rural health continues to drive innovative, grant-funded initiatives designed to expand provider capacity and strengthen care delivery across Upstate and rural New York. Together, these initiatives deliver direct value to members by expanding recruitment pipelines, reducing pressure on emergency departments, supporting care coordination, and advancing sustainable, community-tailored care models.
